Feheney, John M. Ballysteen: The People and The Place. Cork, Iverus Publications, 1998. 14.5 x 21cm. (9), 203 pages. Original softcover. Spine faded, otherwise excellent condition. Inscribed by author on title page.

Ballysteen, on the Shannon Estuary, was originally known as the Iverus, a name that came from the Gaelic tribe Uibh Rosa. After the defeat and gradual absorption of the Vikings, the history of Ballysteen began to be dominated by some of the great Norman and Anglo-Irish families, such as the Dundons, Fitzgeralds, Wallers and Westropps. The people of Ballysteen have carved a name for themselves in several fields, as diverse as sport, literature and breeding showjumpers. In this volume Brother Feheney gathers together the folklore, history, cultural heritage and achievements of Ballysteen and its people. In particular, he has managed to situate the story of one small part of Ireland within the context of Ireland as a whole, showing how events in one affected the other. [From jacket notes]
