Illustrated with many B&W photographs. Losely inserted materials include: a death notice and obituary for the author (The Tines, March 6, 1978), a printed announcement by Guy’s (Margaret Helliwell) about the authors death (2 copies), a program of a funeral service held June 5, 1978 in Southwark, a second program for a Holy Communion service at Guy’s Hospital Chapel on May 10th, 1978. Two photographs; one showing the author, together with Florence Taylor in Ireland, and a printed address (12 pages, w/ illustrations, in red wrappers) given by the author on June 3rd, 1945. Original black cloth. Gilt title on spine. Inside original dust jacket, now inside clear archival jacket. Very good in fair dust jacket. Book with minor shelf wear and occasional very mild foxing. Front hinge cracked with netting exposed. Signed by the Author on the title page. Dust jacket worn with some material losses. See images. Emily Elvira Primrose MacManus, CBE (18 April 1886 – 22 February 1978) was an Irish nurse who served in France during World War I. She was a matron at Bristol Royal Infirmary, then at Guy’s Hospital in London, serving at the latter during World War II. She was the president of the Royal College of Nursing from 1942 to 1944.
