Later fine brown calf binding by B. Silva, Porto. Five raised bands. Gilt title and decorations. Silk-style end papers. Very good condition. Some shelf wear, rubbing and bumping. Small material losses to boards (see images). Sound binding. Edges dust dulled. Ex Libris on front paste down by the ‘Hon.ble Simon Butler (see comments below). Ex Libris on rear paste down ‘Menlough [Castle]. Gift inscription on top of title page. Some burn damage to top first few pages, incl. Map and Title Page, not affecting images or readability. A few pencil annotation. Internally bright and clean. A very nice copy with an interesting Provenance.

A little dust dulling and occasional mild damp staining. A very nice copy of this now scarce first edition.

Hard cover with gilt and blind decorations. Marbled edges and end papers. Good condition only, due to the lack of the folding map, title page and list of subscribers. Map and title page are included as facsimiles (losely inserted A4 Prints). Binding rubbed and bumped. Edges age darkened. Binding tender with front hinge cracked. Front free end paper and first blank coming lose, but still attached. Names of previous owners inscribed on Introduction page. Name of Author also inscribed on Introduction Page. Small libary stamp (see image). Internally a little dust dulled, but otherwise clean. A very good reading / research copy of this scarce item.

Internally both volumes are mildly age darkened. Some edgewear and a few missing corners, none affecting text or images. Overall a very nice copy.

Internally very bright and clean. A lovely set.

Rare Irish Hand Carved Bog Oak Book Slide. The adjustable base with allround Laurel Leaf decoration and a central split carving depicting a view of a Church or Abbey (Muckross Abbey, Killarney?). Two hinged folding bookends, one carved depicting an Irish Celtic Cross, the other as an Irish Harp surrounded by shamrocks.

The Antiquities and History of Ireland. By the Right Honourable Sir James Ware, Knt. Containing 1. His Inquiries into the Antiquities of Ireland, Illustrated with Copper Cutts: To which are annexed Catalogues of all the Chief Governors, of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons in the Present Parliament; the Mayors, Lord Mayors and Sherrifs of the City of Dublin; the Present Establishment of Ireland, with Lists of the Principal Officers Civil and Military, the Commissioners of the Revenue &c. 2. His Annals of Ireland from the first Conquest by the English, a great part of which is now first Published, together with a Chronological Account of the most memorable Events continued from the Reign of Queen Elizabeth to this present time. 3. His Commentaries of the Prelates of Ireland from the first Planting of Christianity there, to the year 1665: to which is now added a Continuation therof to 1704; and a Catalogue of all the Chancellors and Provosts of Trinity College, Dublin, from its Foundation; together with the present Fellows. 4.
