With 13 full page plates (incl. one colour and one fold-out plate) and 23 engraved plates on India paper which are mounted in the text. / Vol. 2: 555 page. With 24 full page plates (incl. two sepia and one double page plate) and 17 engraved plates on India paper which are mounted. / Vol. 3: 622 pages, lxii (Supplement). With 46 full page plates (incl. two colour/sepia and three double page plates) and 24 engraved plates on India paper which are mounted. No half titles. Volume 1 with Dedication page showing Crest of the Roxburghe Club, the first ‘Book Club’. Half-leather with marbled boards. Gilt titles and volume numbers on spine. Volume 3 professionally repaired in 2017 and fitted with new end papers. Very good condition. Boards, corners and hinges a little rubbed and bumped. This is an Ex Library book with an interesting history. All three volumes have a special commemoration plate mounted to front paste-downs: “Norfolk & Norwich Library. This book is Part of the Salvage from the Fire which occurred on August 1st, 1898”. Front free end-papers and title pages show some edge discoloration, possibly because of that fire. The rest of the text pages and plates appears not affected. Edges and pages are a little age darkened and a little browned.

Scarce and early pirated edition. Dublin, Printed for L. White, P. Byrne, J. Moore, J. Jones, B. Dornin, Grueber and M’Allister. W. Jones, and R. White. 1790. 22 x 13.5 cm. vii, (1), 144 pages. [[A]4, B8-K8]. Watermarked Paper. Contemporary cloth. Rough cut edges. Condition: Binding seriously rubbed, bumped, (damp) stained and faded (see images). Front joint open at the top of spine. Front free end paper and large part of half title page missing. Large part (c. 80%) of leaf D8 (pages 47 & 48) missing (a facsimile page printed on archival photo paper is losely inserted). Top section of the book damp stained. Edges dust dulled. Some minor nicks, tears & creases). Name of previous owner in colour pencil on ‘Advertisement’ page. Otherwise internally clean. The book would benefit greatly from rebinding. Despite its faults it remains a fascinating copy and a terrific read.

Three folding Tables. Modern half brown morocco over marbled boards. Marbled end papers. Very good condition. Minor shelf wear to binding. Name of a previous owner on first blank. Three library stamps on frontispiece and title page (see images). No further stamps. Internally mildly age darkened, otherwise clean. A few small annotations. Occasional mild damp staining. Overall a very nice copy of this scarce book.

Map and title page are included as facsimiles (losely inserted A4 Prints). Binding rubbed and bumped. Edges age darkened. Binding tender with front hinge cracked. Front free end paper and first blank coming lose, but still attached. Names of previous owners inscribed on Introduction page. Name of Author also inscribed on Introduction Page. Small libary stamp (see image). Internally a little dust dulled, but otherwise clean. A very good reading / research copy of this scarce item.
