Edges are darkened. Pages have small tears and small amount of paper loss, but not affecting the actual text. A few pencil lines. A very handsome collection in tasteful bindings.

Gilt decorations. New marbled end papers. Very good conditions. Solid bindings with minimal shelf wear. Name of previous owner on title pages scratched out. Internally age darkened and foxed to various, but generally mild degree. A very good set.

Blank, unnumberred engraved Frontispiece, Engravings numbered 1 to 119 and 121 to 212. Page 120 is missing. Old black polished calf with elaborate gilt decorations to boards and spine. Dentelles. All edges gilt. Gilt title, author and publishing date (‘London 1733’) on spine. Five raised bands. Marbled end papers. Very good condition. Binding rubbed and bumped with some minor material losses to spine and corners (please review images). Front hinge started to open with front free end paper and leading two blanks partially loose. Remnants of a red morocco Ex Libris on front free end paper. The two blanks in the front of the book and the one at the end are creased and lack a corner each. The entire text black, consisting of 212 Engraved pages in Excellent condition. Mild age darkening and occasional very mild foxing throughout. The occasional small ink stain. A tiny worm hole close to the binding (not affecting any of the actual engravings) visible between pages 180 and 198. Overall an exceptionally well preserved and clean copy of this scarce item.

With 46 full page plates (incl. two colour/sepia and three double page plates) and 24 engraved plates on India paper which are mounted. No half titles. Volume 1 with Dedication page showing Crest of the Roxburghe Club, the first ‘Book Club’. Half-leather with marbled boards. Gilt titles and volume numbers on spine. Volume 3 professionally repaired in 2017 and fitted with new end papers. Very good condition. Boards, corners and hinges a little rubbed and bumped. This is an Ex Library book with an interesting history. All three volumes have a special commemoration plate mounted to front paste-downs: “Norfolk & Norwich Library. This book is Part of the Salvage from the Fire which occurred on August 1st, 1898”. Front free end-papers and title pages show some edge discoloration, possibly because of that fire. The rest of the text pages and plates appears not affected. Edges and pages are a little age darkened and a little browned.
