With a frontispiece, two foldout maps and other illustrations. Brown calf with gilt line decorations. Label with gilt title on spine. Speckled edges. Good condition. Binding seriously rubbed and bumped. Material losses to spine and spine label. Abrasion to boards. Edges dust dulled. Internally slightly age darkened, otherwise in very good condition. Initials A.F.B. and 13 signatures on front end papers. Placed and dated (Williamsburg, Virginia 5/16/43). Text block bright and clean.

[[A]4, B8-K8]. Watermarked Paper. Contemporary cloth. Rough cut edges. Condition: Binding seriously rubbed, bumped, (damp) stained and faded (see images). Front joint open at the top of spine. Front free end paper and large part of half title page missing. Large part (c. 80%) of leaf D8 (pages 47 & 48) missing (a facsimile page printed on archival photo paper is losely inserted). Top section of the book damp stained. Edges dust dulled. Some minor nicks, tears & creases). Name of previous owner in colour pencil on ‘Advertisement’ page. Otherwise internally clean. The book would benefit greatly from rebinding. Despite its faults it remains a fascinating copy and a terrific read.

Uniform contemporary tree calf. Gilt decorations to spine. Dentelles. Generally very good condition. Bindings seriously rubbed and bumped. Edges and end papers age darkened and dust dulled. Spine labels missing. Some joints started to crack. Some material losses to heads of spines and corners (see images). The 1779 volume has a split spine. Bindings remain sound. Internally mildly age darkened / dust dulled, occasionally foxed, otherwise clean. The 1781 volumes shows some damp and bookworm damage for the last 20 pages or so, not affecting readability. No annotations, library stamps etc. Eight clean copies. Excellent reading copies or candidates for rebinding.

Overall a very nice collection of more than 450 plates. See images.
